The RK3588S2 development board is a high-performance embedded single-board computer and industrial-grade mainboard built on Rockchip’s flagship RK3588S2 SoC, designed to serve diverse embedded scenarios including intelligent display, industrial field control, high-speed network transmission, local file storage, and edge artificial intelligence computing. Adopting advanced 8nm LP process technology, the chip delivers superior computing performance and power consumption control capabilities, making it applicable for high-load multimedia processing, edge AI reasoning, and stable long-term industrial operation, with outstanding overall performance and scenario adaptability compared with mainstream mid-range embedded boards.
In terms of core computing architecture, the RK3588S2 SoC integrates an octa-core 64-bit heterogeneous CPU, consisting of four high-performance Cortex-A76 cores and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores, with a boosted main frequency up to 2.4GHz. It is equipped with ARM Mali-G610 MC4 dedicated graphics GPU, which supports full-featured 2D and 3D graphics acceleration to ensure smooth rendering of high-resolution graphical interfaces and industrial human-computer interaction systems. The board supports full 8K hardware video encoding and decoding as well as 8K ultra-high-definition display output, paired with powerful ISP image processing capability, multi-channel MIPI camera input and heterogeneous multi-screen display functions, fully meeting the ultra-high-definition visual processing demands of intelligent monitoring, commercial display and machine vision equipment.
Equipped with an independent built-in NPU, the RK3588S2 development board provides up to 6 TOPS of dedicated AI computing power. The hardware-based AI acceleration effectively offloads intensive algorithm reasoning tasks from the CPU, enabling stable and efficient deployment of various edge AI applications such as target detection, image recognition, visual analysis and data intelligent processing. It supports localized intelligent computing without relying on cloud servers, ensuring low-latency and high-reliability AI operation for embedded terminal devices.
The board supports diversified configurable memory and storage combinations to adapt to differentiated industrial and commercial application requirements. It features on-board LPDDR4X RAM with optional 4GB/8GB/16GB capacity and a dominant frequency of 2112MHz, and provides multiple eMMC storage specifications including 0GB/32GB/64GB/128GB. Customized memory and storage schemes are available for special industrial scenarios. The balanced and flexible hardware configuration covers lightweight to medium-high load embedded development scenarios, reducing hardware adaptation costs and improving equipment compatibility and scalability.
With high hardware integration and abundant peripheral expansion interfaces, the RK3588S2 development board reserves complete industrial-grade interfaces for secondary development. It integrates a 10/100/1000Mbps adaptive Gigabit Ethernet port to guarantee stable and high-speed network data transmission. The display system adopts Mini-HDMI 2.1 interface and dual MIPI-DSI screen interfaces, supporting heterogeneous multi-screen synchronous and asynchronous display to satisfy multi-terminal visual output requirements. For visual acquisition, it is configured with three sets of 15Pin BTB MIPI-CSI camera interfaces, including one front-end and two rear-end channels, supporting multi-camera synchronous image collection for machine vision projects.
In terms of peripheral expansion, the board retains three USB2.0 Type-A HOST interfaces and one USB3.0 Type-A HOST interface for external device expansion. The onboard Type-C OTG interface supports firmware burning and DP video protocol output, which can work with other display terminals to realize multi-screen splicing and expansion. A Mini-PCIe expansion slot is reserved, compatible with full-height and half-height WiFi network cards, 4G communication modules and other mainstream Mini-PCIe peripheral modules, facilitating wireless network and communication function expansion.
The onboard SIM and TF composite card slot supports simultaneous installation of SIM card and Micro SD card, with TF card booting function and a maximum expandable storage capacity of 512GB; the 4G network function is enabled by matching with an external 4G module. A standard 40-pin header is led out, fully compatible with Raspberry Pi pin definition, supporting multi-functional expansion of PWM, GPIO, I2C, SPI and UART buses, which greatly reduces the threshold of hardware transplantation and secondary development for embedded engineers.
In terms of basic hardware configuration and debugging functions, the board adopts 5V@4A DC power supply via Type-C interface (power-only design without data transmission capability). It is equipped with a dedicated debug serial port with a default parameter of 1500000-8-N-1, complying with standard embedded debugging specifications. Onboard audio resources include one electret MIC input and one headphone output & microphone input two-in-one audio interface. Physical function keys including power button, MaskRom button and Recovery button are integrated for convenient device startup control and firmware recovery.
In addition, the board integrates practical industrial peripherals such as infrared receiver, independent RTC power interface and 5V fan heat dissipation interface. The infrared receiving module supports infrared remote control operation for convenient equipment debugging and daily control; the RTC interface ensures stable power supply for clock timing to maintain system time accuracy after power off; the reserved fan interface supports active heat dissipation to guarantee long-term stable operation of the board under high-load computing conditions.
For system compatibility and development support, the RK3588S2 development board officially supports mainstream embedded operating systems including Android 13, Debian and Ubuntu, adapting to multiple development scenarios such as intelligent terminal system development, Linux industrial control programming and edge algorithm verification. The entire platform adopts a fully open-source design, providing complete official development tutorials, dedicated SDK driver development packages and hardware design schematics. The complete technical data support enables embedded developers to quickly complete project transplantation, function development and iterative optimization, effectively shortening the product development cycle.
